Aliens: Possibility and Science

 

Although no conclusive evidence of life has yet been found on any planet or moon beyond Earth, many people believe that life exists on other worlds and that such beings are more advanced than humans. In ancient folklore, the arrival on Earth of various creatures from other planets and stars was treated as an entirely natural occurrence. Those imaginative stories have been recast with scientific elements in modern science fiction. Many people, however, regard the aliens of science fiction as real. Although the literal meaning of the word “alien” is “a person from another country,” in common usage it has come to mean a living being from another planet.

পৃথিবীর বাইরে অন্য কোনো গ্রহ বা উপগ্রহে প্রাণের অস্তিত্বের প্রমাণ এখনো নিশ্চিতভাবে পাওয়া না গেলেও, অনেকেই বিশ্বাস করেন যে ভিন গ্রহেও প্রাণী আছে এবং সেই প্রাণীরা পৃথিবীর মানুষের চেয়েও উন্নত। প্রাচীন লোককাহিনিতে অন্যান্য গ্রহ নক্ষত্র থেকে বিভিন্ন ধরনের প্রাণীর পৃথিবীতে আনাগোনা খুবই স্বাভাবিক ঘটনা। সেই কল্পকাহিনিগুলো বৈজ্ঞানিক উপাদানে নতুনভাবে সেজে উঠেছে কল্পবিজ্ঞানের গল্পে। তবে অনেকেই কল্পবিজ্ঞানের এলিয়েনকে সত্যি বলে মনে করেন। এলিয়েন শব্দের আক্ষরিক অর্থ ‘ভিনদেশের মানুষ’ হলেও এর প্রায়োগিক অর্থ দাঁড়িয়ে গেছে ভিনগ্রহের প্রাণী হিসেবে।

Beyond the Rankings: What Makes a City Truly Liveable

 

Before my day had even begun, I received a message from a friend. Attached to it was a Prothom Alo photo card proclaiming: “Three of the World’s Ten Most Liveable Cities Are in Australia.” My friend congratulated me.

International Physics Olympiad 2026 & Australia

 

The students representing Bangladesh at the 56th International Physics Olympiad 2026, held in Colombia, achieved outstanding results. Fahim Farbin of Notre Dame College won a silver medal. Nafis Sadik of Rangpur Cantonment College and Aditya Rahman of St Joseph International School won bronze medals, while Samiul Islam of Mymensingh Zilla School received an honourable mention.

অস্ট্রেলিয়া এবং ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফিজিক্স অলিম্পিয়াড ২০২৬

 

কলম্বিয়ায় অনুষ্ঠিত ৫৬তম  ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফিজিক্স অলিম্পিয়াড ২০২৬-এ বাংলাদেশ থেকে অংশ নেয়া শিক্ষার্থীরা দারুণ ফল করেছে। নটরডেম কলেজের ফাহিম ফারবিন সিলভার মেডেল অর্জন করেছে। রংপুর ক্যান্টনমেন্ট কলেজের নাফিস সাদিক ও সেন্ট জোসেফ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুলের আদিত্য রহমান অর্জন করেছে ব্রোঞ্জ মেডেল, আর ময়মনসিংহ জিলা স্কুলের সামিউল ইসলাম অর্জন করেছে সম্মানজনক স্বীকৃতি। এদের সবাইকে প্রাণঢালা অভিনন্দন।

বাসযোগ্য শহরের বাসযোগ্যতা

 

দিন শুরু করার আগেই একটি ম্যাসেজ এলো আমার এক বন্ধুর কাছ থেকে। সাথে প্রথম আলোর ফটোকার্ড “বিশ্বের সেরা ১০ বাসযোগ্য শহরের ৩টিই অস্ট্রেলিয়ার”। বন্ধুটি এজন্য আমাকে অভিনন্দন জানিয়েছে। অভিনন্দন ব্যাপারটি আজকাল খুবই সহজলভ্য – কোনোকিছু না করেও পাওয়া যায়। অস্ট্রেলিয়ার শহরগুলিকে বাসযোগ্য করে তোলার ব্যাপারে আমার কোনো ভূমিকা নেই। শুধুমাত্র এখানকার একটি শহরে উড়ে এসে জুড়ে বসার কারণেই আমার বন্ধুটি মনে করছে ব্যাপারটি
